One-third of Americans report excessive sleepiness — and the issue deserves greater attention, experts say

Excessive sleepiness – the inability to stay awake during major waking periods – has adverse effects on performance, health, mood, safety and quality of life. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine says health care workers need to take the condition more seriously, because it has 'wide-ranging consequences.'
