Joel Embiid upgraded to questionable for Sixers-Hawks on Sunday; could return after nine straight absences

Joel Embiid (right knee injury management) has been upgraded to questionable for the Sixers' home game against the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday night, indicating a possible return to action for the former NBA MVP who has missed nine consecutive games since his most recent appearance on Nov. 8.

Of Embiid's nine straight absences, the last eight have been caused by a right knee issue he first reported on Nov. 11. Sixers head coach Nick Nurse and team officials have continually described the issue as day-to-day, though 18 days have gone by without Embiid appearing in a game. He looked primed to be sidelined once again on Sunday evening, but five hours and change prior to tip-off the Sixers officially changed Embiid's status.
