A 29-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot while attempting to make a DoorDash delivery Monday evening.

Police were called to the 1500 block of East Johnson Street in East Mt. Airy just before 5 p.m. to reports of shots fired on a rear driveway. When they arrived, they found the man facedown with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital where he remains in critical condition, NBC10 reported.

The man told police he was working as a food delivery driver for DoorDash when he was shot. After parking his car, he saw someone approaching with a gun and began to run. He was then shot and collapsed in the driveway.

"We don't have a motive at this time. We don't know if this was a robbery or an attempted carjacking, we're not sure," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told 6ABC.

Police said that there's no description of the shooter or the weapon currently, but they do know it was semiautomatic. Five shell casings were found in the driveway and another was found half a block away.

Police said they're hoping footage from private cameras in the area can help identify the shooter.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Police Department's Shooting Investigations Group at (215) 686-8270 or call the tipline at (215) 686-TIPS with the option to remain anonymous.
