Officers were first called to the 5400 block of Chancellor Street just before 6 p.m. A woman, who police believe was the man's girlfriend, said he fired a shot inside the home.
He then allegedly walked up to a black pickup truck on the street outside and demanded that the driver get out of the car. An officer saw this and confronted the man, firing at least one shot. The driver was able to exit the vehicle and run away safely; NBC10 reported that the man did attempt to shoot at him but the gun jammed.
From there, the man got into the vehicle and began driving away. Police followed, pursuing him until 52nd Street and Woodland Avenue, approximately 2 miles away.
At that point, the man armed himself and exited the truck, police said. Shots were fired as officers tried to apprehend him. He was struck multiple times and sustained wounds in his arm, face and hip, according to 6ABC. He was taken into custody and then the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police are currently searching for video footage and investigating evidence from the incident, including a gun recovered at the scene.
